Hi, I'm  Alexis Walker, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and I have almost no web-presence. This is due, in part, because I'm irrationally uncomfortable with self-promotion. Another major reason can be summed up by "you are where you live".  If you ever plan to visit Fairbanks, you'll quickly discover that most of the businesses, events, and research labs here don't have an online presence whatsoever. So why now? Well, I received some feedback from a grant proposal, in which I was indicated as a graduate student contractor (CV not included), that basically said "who is this person and how do we know she can do what she says she can, she doesn't even have a web-presence". Fair point human, so here I am, realizing that I too can be just another scientist with a webpage. I'm still figuring out how I want this website to look and what content I want to include, so please keep that in mind while browsing. I hope to at the least provide a general idea of who I am and what I work on (Arctic marine sediment microbes),  as well as a forum to discuss research and papers which I will hopefully publish in the near future. Thanks for stopping by.
